The ancient sky. I've heard the sky or the heavens used as an analogy to describe the increased spiritual consciousness and the ensuing wide-spread cultural changes that always follow the appearance of one of the great Manifestations of God. (For example, Buddha, Moses, Krishna, Jesus, Mohammad, Baha'u'llah etc.).

The analogy likens the resulting increased clarity of the human spirit and the teachings of the Manifestation of God and accompanying renewed social and religious institutions of each new religious epoch to a broadening clear sky filled with various lofty heavenly bodies such as the sun, stars, moon and planets (such as the Earth) which act as bringers (reflectors) of light and points of orientation by which we navigate our way on the human journey.
Whenever one of these Great Beings appear, remaking and rejuvenating the world as perceived by the human spirit, there is always the promise of further assistance in the future - that when needed, the Creator will revisit, in a Manifestation of Himself, to refresh and lead humanity into newer and more wondrous realizations of the purpose and nature of reality.

So when the stars of this "sky" (for example, those proponents of God on earth) have fallen from their once lofty place in human society and no longer truly guide our way, or when the moon (for example, central religious and/or governmental institutions) cease to truly care for the people and wander in confusion, darkened, no longer reflecting the light of divine guidance, a time always comes when a new heavens and a new earth appear to mankind through the instrumentality of a Manifestation of God, Who progressively reveal fuller expressions of truth.

We are currently in one of these momentous periods of humanity's ongoing journey.

Up on the edge of the canyon
Eyes squinting from a brilliant sky
And deep from the floor of the valley
Rise the echoes of a plaintive cry
Ooo where's the stars from on high
Ooo we need that help
from the ancient sky

We wait at the edge of the banquet
All dressed up in the fading light
The thief, the slave and the harlot
And the rest entranced by the sight
Ooo to reach that feast, we'd need to fly
Ooo we'd need that help
from the ancient sky

The ancient sky full of sunlight
And the moonlight and the stars
So the east is known from the west-side
And the inside of our home
With the help of the ancient sky

When that guiding light has faded
And the moon's ceased to give its light
And the dark of the world gets heavy
And the good of the heart has lost its fight
Ooo its renewed with the lover's sigh
Ooo we get that help from the ancient sky
Ooo the ancient sky
