Perception.
As the eye needs light in order to perceive the world around us, the mind's-eye or 'eye of the spirit' requires an equivalent light. This light is shed by those Luminaries history variously refers to as Prophets, Messengers or Manifestations of God.
Where the sun reveals the presence of a wondrous physical world by means of its interaction with our physical eyes, these Day Stars of divine guidance, Buddha, Krishna, Moses, Jesus, Mohammed, Baha'u'llah etc., reveal the presence of a vast and wondrous spiritual reality which transcends this physical one.
Without Them, as without the sun, our eyes, whether 'inner' or 'outer' would perceive little or nothing. For the human, both of these 'sights' need to be in play in order to penetrate through to the realities of things.
When both the 'inner' and 'outer' eyes are active and working in harmony, a person not only clearly perceives the mysteries of life but is also able to arise and, engaging the world, serve his fellow creatures with purpose and wisdom, contributing, even if only in a small way, to the betterment of the world.
Whereas the relationship between the sun and the physical eye is automatic, requiring little or no volition, the relationship between the Manifestations of God and ourselves is of a much higher order and requires deliberate and conscious effort. We all live with the results of our collective efforts - it determines the kind of world we live in. May our efforts be informed with a clear perception

WORDS & MUSIC BY BOB RYAN (C)1991
We wing our way over mountains
We wing our way over the sea
We wing our way over prairies
But when do we wing our way home?
We see the truth as vague impressions
We sense a man as from afar
We travel far from the center
O When do we wing our way home?
We need a clear perception
To break through the night
A nine-pointed constellation
By it’s light we will wing our way home
We search the ways and the byways
We sift the dust of every path
We seek the point of adoration
When we dream of our way back home
The veils are removed with precision
As we travel down the inner-road
We learn the signs of that bright direction
When we begin to wing our way home
We need to know the four directions
So we can choose a way to go
If there were no point of orientation
We could never wing our way home
